Theory of Change

Our Theory of Change

At Umoja, we believe that vulnerable young people in Tanzania can thrive when they are given the right support at the right time.

Our work is built on a simple but powerful idea: that education, health and livelihoods are inseparable. A young person who is hungry cannot learn. A girl who lacks sanitary products will not attend school. A young person without psychosocial support cannot reach their potential. Address all three together, and transformation becomes possible.

Through community outreach and engagement, tailored education and vocational programmes, nutritious meals, health and psychosocial support, and family engagement, Umoja creates the conditions for young people to succeed.

Our activities lead to clear outputs: quality education programmes, equal access for girls and women, engaged families and a safe and healthy learning environment. These outputs drive meaningful outcomes: young people with the skills, health, confidence and support networks to transition safely into adulthood and access employment.

The result is lasting impact. Vulnerable youth in Tanzania who are educated, economically active and personally resilient, breaking the cycle of poverty for themselves, their families and their communities.
