This year we have changed our student recruitment strategy, and advertised widely on national radio here in Tanzania, through social media and through our networks handing out 100’s of flyers. We narrowed the applicants down to 86 who we invited for round one of our interviews at The Umoja Centre. We had four activities, an English test (to assess English level and basic literacy), a personality quiz, and two physical activities to watch leadership, team work and other behaviours. After feedback from the Umoja team and much deliberation, we have now selected 70 hopeful youth to attend the final interview, which is a face to face panel interview. It is crucial that we recruit the right kind of student, one who is motivated, in real need and without other opportunities. All the Umoja team are so excited to meet our class of 2016 and get started with our new and updated programme.
